Web Writing: Writing For Humans and Search Engines
A classic mistake that a lot of newer web writers make is that they only focus on their audience of human readers. This seems all fine and well in concept, however, there is a fatal flaw here. Not only do you have to satisfy the need of the humans reading your work, you also have to make sure that you are satisfying the need of the search engines. If you concentrate solely on the needs of the people and neglect the needs of the search engine, your readers will never find your work. And if you focus solely on what the search engines need, when people do find your writing, they will not be all that interested and they will move on to a writer that was able to handle both.
It is extremely important to make sure that you have properly optimized your articles or web pages. This means that you are going to have to do a little bit of work to make sure that you are finding the most relevant keywords for what you are writing. It does not stop there. Once you find keywords that are suitable, you are going to have to determine just how popular they are, without putting you in the running with too much competition. You also want to make sure that your keywords are placed properly within the article. This means the beginning of the first paragraph, the ending of the last paragraph and sprinkled throughout the rest of the text. Make sure that you are not overloading your article with keywords. Too many keywords will not give you the outcome that you desire. Keep the keyword usage between 3 and 7 percent.
Now that you have that settled, you are going to want to move on to the next stage which is making sure that you are properly engaging your readers. You want to make sure that you are giving them what they seek. Your work should be engaging, informative and it should influence them to come back for more. When you are able to master what it is that the humans and the search engines want, you are going to be much better off with your venture into the world of writing for the web.
All you have to do is to get started. They say that practice makes perfect and once you get started, you will be able to see just how true that is. You are going to want to make sure that you are writing whenever you can so that you can really put your name out there. When you grow with your audience, you will find that you will have dedicated readers for a lifetime!
