You may be thinking about starting to write for the web. Maybe you have experience writing for a newspaper, magazine or other publication, or perhaps you have written essays and found it easy. You may not have done any writing for an audience, just kept a diary or written for yourself each day for some reason. Whatever your writing experience, if you have done writing for different audiences and found it interesting and had some success at it then web writing could well be a career for you.

The main things that you have to keep in mind when thinking about writing for the web is that you have to make sure that the piece you are writing fulfils the criteria of the person who has requested it. Read carefully through what they want and be sure that you clearly understand what they want you to write and the audience that the writing is going to be aimed at. If you get this wrong then you may find that you end up rewriting a lot, or not getting paid for the work that you do. Be especially careful to make sure that you include keywords if they are requested and in the volume that they are asked for. Also if they quote a website that you need to look at, make sure you do look at it, so that you know exactly what they are looking for.

You need to keep in mind that most writing that you do on the web is paid in dollars. If you are not from the USA you will have to consider the exchange rate when looking at whether writing is economical for you. You might find that what you think you are being paid isn’t anywhere near the rate you were expecting, so be careful to convert it properly and be sure that it is worth putting the effort into your writing.

Writing for the web doesn’t pay as well as other types of writing. If you write a book or work as a journalist you will get paid a lot more. This means that you shouldn’t expect to make your fortune by doing this kind of writing. It might be something you do as a hobby or to get a bit of extra income, but it shouldn’t be something you turn into your career unless you can find an online journal or magazine who wants to employ you at a proper journalists rate. Don’t expect that this will be a high paying career, particularly to begin with. You will need to make a name for yourself and earn a good reputation if you are to get people requesting your services and paying you a good rate. There is a lot of competition out there and you need to aware that there are people who are good writers who are willing to do it at a low rate.

If you want a career that you can do from home and do the hours hours that will suit you then web writing could be just the career for you. In order to get those high paying web writing jobs then check out the Yahoo Web Writing Style Guide to start perfecting your writing skills today.

Websites are a way for customers and people generally to know more about you, your company and anything new that you think people should know about. This is why the content should be carefully written. You should not pay too much attention to the design thereby forgetting that how it looks will not tell the visitors what they want. Keep in mind that no matter what, content is always king. People rarely have this in mind and in the long run they lose focus on what exactly a website should entail. Let us just look at 5 tips to make your web writing effective.
It is normally said that you should think before you speak. Well, when it comes to web writing, you should think before you write. You have to plan what to say before you begin writing. The best way to do this is by having an outline of what you want to write. You will be able to organize your points effectively.
Next, you should use informal language that is active. I know you are taught in school that you should be filled with vocabulary. This is not the case when it comes to web writing. Hard English means hard to understand. Be as informal as possible so that your message hits the nail on the head. Always remember that you are communicating with customers and not lawyers in court.
You should also be careful with humor. Just because you are using informal language does not mean that you fill the site with pop culture references. It is true that funny is relevant. Therefore avoid some funny one-liners that you think are funny and yet they may be offensive to some customers. A simple joke may drive away a percentage of your online customers.
Again, when writing for the web, you should make your content informative. Always try to put yourself in the reader’s shoes. Try to think that if you were the reader, what exactly you would want to know about the product or service you are selling. Do not just say that you are the best. Tell the reader why you are the best. Everyone claims to be the best but it is difficult to know why.
One of the mistakes that people make is using the wrong timing when it comes to discussing features and benefits. When you get this timing right, your hits will be off the scale. A thing you should know is that customers want to know what the product can do for them before they start thinking of how the product will accomplish this task.

What am I saying? When talking about a product, always state the benefits first before you state the features. However, do not make the mistake of trying to sell based on benefits alone. Visitors usually compare products that serve similar functions online before they decide which ones to buy. Therefore always use the benefits to entice the reader to read more thereby leading them to the features.
When you follow these tips to the letter, you will have an edge over anyone you are competing with. Design may be beautiful but what will it get you if you do not talk about it? The site is made pretty but still, content is king.

If you are just starting out as a web writer it may be difficult to know where exactly to start. You might think that you can get work if you contact the big magazines and newspapers that are online and send them some of your work. However, they are much more likely to either use articles written by their staff or buy items from an agency that they always use rather than take work on from freelancers. However, if you don’t mind doing work for a range of different people and starting to earn at a low rate, there is a lot of potential work for you.

Take a look at websites and forums about writing. There are a lot of people on the web who are looking for people to write articles to advertise their products or websites, or want to fill their blog full of a range of posts but don’t have the time or skills to write these themselves. You just need to know where to look for these people in order to start writing. Many won’t even mind if you have no experience, they will allow you write a few things for them to see how you do, and pay you if you like them. You might have to experience being rejected a few times because you may not understand what they want, but as you go on, you will find it easier to write for different people, and also learn which sort of people are the easiest to work for.

Take a look at online forums about writing and you will find a lot of links to places which advertise for writers and where you can advertise yourself as someone who is interested in writing for others. Some of these will ask you to note down how much you want to earn. Don’t set your price too high if you are inexperienced as you are unlikely to get much work. Look around at what other people are charging and choose a similar rate. Once you have been writing for a while and you are trusted, you will be able to demand a higher rate for whatever you write. You might have to start writing about subjects you have no interest in, but as you get more in demand you will be able to be more fussy about the work you take on.

You will need to be prepared to start small and write just a few words for a small income to begin with. You can’t expect to make a lot of money right at the beginning of your writing career and you will need to make sure that you learn from your mistakes. If you get any work rejected or any negative feedback, make sure that you read what the person has to say and that you learn from it, so that you can improve on this next time. Then you will be more likely to have your work accepted next time and your income will slowly build up, until you might be able to work at web writing full time and make yourself a career out of it.

I used to work for a local newspaper website and had to take copy that was written for the paper and put it onto the web. It soon became clear that the audience for the website was very different to the paper and we had to keep that in mind when we were writing. We found that the paper had a big audience of OAP’s but the website was visited by a lot of sports fans trying to find the latest scores and match reports. These were a much younger demographic, so if we wanted to hold their interest we had to create other content aimed at them as well.

Writing for other parts of the web is the same. The main difference between that and writing for print is the audience. When you are writing for a publication you usually have a set audience that you are aiming towards, whereas the online media tends to attract a wide range of people of different ages and from different countries. Your writing therefore needs to reflect this by being more general rather than trying to appeal to a particular person.

When people are reading articles on the web they are unlikely to sit and read for long periods of time like they would when reading a magazine or newspaper. Often they catch up on topics they are interested in during their lunch break or other short periods of time which mean that they don’t want to read long passages with lots of details, but want short, sharp bursts that are information rich and punchy. You shouldn’t be writing lots of waffling sentences with detailed language as this will just take too long for anyone to read.

On the web it is very easy to get distracted by adverts, or other sites that you have seen on the search you made, or know about. Therefore if you are writing for the web you have to work much harder at keeping your readers attention. You need to write in a chatty style that they will feel comfortable reading, and make them feel like you are writing the article just for them to keep them interested. Use language that they will easily understand, but keep the sentence structures varied to keep their interest. Try to use a wide range of vocabulary but make sure the words are common enough to be easily understood, as your reader won’t want to be looking up every other word in a dictionary.

Try to make it easy for your readers to understand the points you are making. Use bullet points if that is easier to get your point across and make sure that everything you say is clearly explained but in as few words as possible. Break down your writing into short paragraphs and try not to make more than one or two points in each sentence. Using a clear style like this will mean that your reader is less likely to become distracted with what they are reading.

When you are trying to write articles for the web, it is very easy to relax a bit if you have had quite a lot of successful work, and just do the bare minimum to get paid. In fact you should be doing the opposite, as the harder you work at it, the more likely you are to be employed again and next time it could be at a higher rate. So what should you do to make sure that you keep improving your skills?

Firstly try to write for a lot of different audiences. This will give you practice in a lot of styles and keep you thinking in different ways about your writing. Your writing will seem more fresh and vibrant and will be more interesting as a result. If you are writing a wide range of articles you will also be having to do more research. Reading different sites about different subjects will also help you improve your style as you will be seeing how other people are writing and what they are doing to keep their work interesting.

Secondly you can never work enough at your grammar, spelling and sentence construction. If you try to learn new words every day you will also be able to increase your vocabulary and as a result your writing will become more interesting, simply because you are able to drop in a lot of different words, and that will make it a more absorbing read. You need to make sure that you always spell properly – put your work into a spell checker before you submit it. Some words won’t be picked up, as even if you spelt them wrong, or mistyped them, they still may not be picked up as the word may mean something else. You also may be accused of spelling words wrongly if you are writing for an American audience and you are using English spellings of words, so be sure you know who it is aimed for before you start. You also need to make sure that you proof read anything you have written before you submit it to the person who asked you for it, just in case it contains any silly errors that your spell checker hasn’t picked up. If you are having difficulty with your grammar then there are plenty of sites on the internet that can help you with this.

If you get any articles rejected then try to find out why this was. If you have a reason why then you can work on this ready for your next attempt. If you aren’t sure if it is any better then find someone who you know is a good writer and ask them to check it over for you. It is always worth getting a second opinion if you aren’t sure about anything and then you will at least know it makes sense first. Otherwise it may end up being rejected just for a couple of simple errors which you could easily have corrected.

If you are interested in learning to write articles or blog entries for the internet you may think that this may take a lot of time, but in fact if you learn the skill you can write articles very quickly.

You do need a basic grasp of English and it is useful if you have done a lot of writing and are used to working in high pressure situations. That way you should be able to write articles in record time without panicking and writing things which aren’t relevant to the subject. You need to remain calm and focused and not be distracted.

The key to writing an article is to make sure that you have done all the relevant research before you start. If there is anything you aren’t sure about in the article then look it up first and make sure you have all your facts straight. That way when you actually get down to doing the writing you can do it quickly and easily. You need to make sure that you are writing what the person requesting the work wants, and once you are clear about what that is you should be able to get down to the article and finish it quickly.

One method that helps me to write quickly is to only use words that I am sure I can spell. That way I don’t have to use time looking them up or checking them on a spell checker. I also set my browser to automatically check spelling so that I can see any mistakes as I go along and therefore not have to check it at the end. I also write in a friendly approachable manner as if I am talking to the audience I am writing for, and this way, the writing comes more naturally to me and it makes it much easier to write.

Before I started doing this kind of writing, I looked at examples of other peoples writing and choose a style that would suit me and would be easy for me to adapt, and also would work well with a large range of articles. I make sure that my style will suit the type of article that I have chosen to write.

You will need to keep in mind that the Internet has a whole range of people looking at it. It isn’t the same as writing for a publication where there is a specific audience in mind. However, if you have done any kind of writing in the past it will serve as good experience for writing for the web.

So the basics to learning to write articles fast is to do your research before you start writing, find a writing style you like, make sure you can easily spell check as you go along, and make sure that you don’t get distracted while you are writing. If you adopt all of these, then you should be able to be a successful writer for a web audience.

If you want to make money writing for the web you will need to find a way of attracting people to you. They will need to know what sort of things you write and how to contact you. There are several ways you can do that. Firstly it is good idea to start your own blog. If you add entries regularly it will be a good way for people to see your writing style and also find out that you are a keen writer who likes to do it every day. You will then need to publicise your blog and let people know through it that you are a writer.

However, this may not be enough. If people are looking for writers they are unlikely to be searching the net for them. Often there are sites where people will advertise for experienced writers and let them know what sort of writing they want them to do and how much they will pay for it. It is worth searching for web sites and forums that do this. You may also be able to advertise yourself on there and let people know what you are willing to write and what sort of rate you would be looking for.

Some sites will advertise specific articles that people need to be written and the first person to contact the requester will be allowed to try to write the article. This is a good way to be discovered by various people who might then directly employ you for any writing work that they have before offering it out to others. This will save you time as you won’t have to be searching for writing assignments, you can just be writing them instead. This means that you will make more money that you previously would do.

If you are currently writing some articles but aren’t making much money at it, it could be because you are choosing the wrong sort of things to write. It is better if you write about subjects that you know, as then you don’t have to do any research on the topic. This will mean that you can get straight into writing the article so you will end up getting paid more because you will spending less time on it.

If you are to make good money at writing you need to make sure that everything your write has good punctuation, spelling and is grammatically correct. It needs to make sense when you read it back, and it needs to have simple language so that anyone who reads it can easily understand what you have written. Don’t try to put in lots of unnecessary words just to try and fill up the word limit. This won’t make people want to employ you again as you may be making the same point over and over in different words, rather than writing a quality article with lots of interesting content. Make sure everything you write makes sense, is true, and you can back it up with evidence if needed.

Websites are meant to communicate to certain people. They are meant to improve on existing markets by adding to the fold. If you think critically, to some extent, websites are actually the images of their various companies. This is why when they are being done, especially when the content is being written, they should be done in an exemplary manner. A good website should have a few key features in its content. For this reason, let us talk about the features of good web writing.
The first feature of good content is clarity. Many writers think that their content is clear because they can understand it. However, just like beauty, clarity is in the eye of the beholder or if you like, the reader. Your words may seem so clear to you that you make the mistake of assuming that everyone understands them. Good content is free of jargon and it is informal in nature. It never employs the use of heavy vocabulary.
The next feature is relevance. If your content is not relevant to your target audience, there is a high chance that they will not pay much attention to it. Good content never entails what is being sold. Instead, it entails the people to whom the product is being sold. In essence it talks about the target audience. It never talks at the readers, it talks to them. Never corner them. Relevant content always engages the audience and does not dictate terms. Usually, good content has an emotional lever. Good content appeals to the emotions of the reader and not just the logic.
Another feature is brevity. Online content is not the same as print content. When you read newspapers, you will see that there are usually a lot of words. If you do not finish reading something in page one, at the bottom of the page there is an order telling you to go to the third, eighth page and so on. Online content is short and is about a tenth of print content. Online content is usually straight to the point. Sometimes it just has a brief introduction.
One of the things you will notice when you visit a web site with good content is that it is free from errors. You will notice that there are no grammatical mistakes, typos, or misspellings. This is because a good writer knows that there are readers with keen eyes and they will easily notice such mistakes. This will result in loss of credibility. Another error is that it is free from is factual errors. Good website content always has its facts right.
Finally good integration with the site design is a part of good content. You will notice that the color of a good website matches the mood that the content brings about. If it is a sporting website, most likely you will notice bright colors here and there so as to match the content. These two are part and parcel of the website. If the design does not match the mood of the content, most likely your message will not get through to your readers.

If you want to write for the web you need to be able to write lots of articles about many different subjects. You need to be a versatile writer who is able to change their style for different audiences and to suit different writing assignments. Most importantly though you need to be able to write very good quality articles. To get hired as a writer you will need to prove yourself and show that you can be all of these things. One way to do this is to put together a portfolio of work you are able to do and advertise it via your own website or blog. Then when you have sourced writing jobs online you will be able to link them to your work so that potential employers can see what you are capable of.

You need to make sure that any work you do is of a good quality so that you will be hired again. To do this you need to make sure that you have immaculate spelling, the writing is grammatically correct, and most importantly, that what you write makes perfect sense. You need to make sure that you are able to write about precisely what the person who is employing you wants. If they request something specific then make sure your article fulfils the exact requirements right down to which keywords they might want inserting and where. If you can prove yourself, even to just a few people then you are likely to be hired again and again. People don’t want to have to keep searching for new people to write for them, they are happier if they know someone who they can contact every time they have something they need to be written and be sure that they will get a good quality piece of writing every time.

You will need to make sure that the person can find out about you. You will need to look on websites and forums that put writers and hirers together and see if you can get people interested in you. If you don’t market yourself as a writer, don’t expect that writing jobs will just fall into your inbox. You will need to work hard to become a trusted writer before that starts happening. You will have to do a lot of different jobs in different styles and some may not be the kind of writing that you like to do. However, if you want people to notice you as a writer it is best to do as much as possible so that there is plenty of your writing around so potential hirers can see lots of examples of your work, and that you are getting good reports from different employers. Even if you have a few different people who ask you to write for them, make sure that you still market yourself as you never know when one of them may no longer have any work for you and you will be looking to write for someone new.

A classic mistake that a lot of newer web writers make is that they only focus on their audience of human readers. This seems all fine and well in concept, however, there is a fatal flaw here. Not only do you have to satisfy the need of the humans reading your work, you also have to make sure that you are satisfying the need of the search engines. If you concentrate solely on the needs of the people and neglect the needs of the search engine, your readers will never find your work. And if you focus solely on what the search engines need, when people do find your writing, they will not be all that interested and they will move on to a writer that was able to handle both.

It is extremely important to make sure that you have properly optimized your articles or web pages. This means that you are going to have to do a little bit of work to make sure that you are finding the most relevant keywords for what you are writing. It does not stop there. Once you find keywords that are suitable, you are going to have to determine just how popular they are, without putting you in the running with too much competition. You also want to make sure that your keywords are placed properly within the article. This means the beginning of the first paragraph, the ending of the last paragraph and sprinkled throughout the rest of the text. Make sure that you are not overloading your article with keywords. Too many keywords will not give you the outcome that you desire. Keep the keyword usage between 3 and 7 percent.

Now that you have that settled, you are going to want to move on to the next stage which is making sure that you are properly engaging your readers. You want to make sure that you are giving them what they seek. Your work should be engaging, informative and it should influence them to come back for more. When you are able to master what it is that the humans and the search engines want, you are going to be much better off with your venture into the world of writing for the web.

All you have to do is to get started. They say that practice makes perfect and once you get started, you will be able to see just how true that is. You are going to want to make sure that you are writing whenever you can so that you can really put your name out there. When you grow with your audience, you will find that you will have dedicated readers for a lifetime!
